CHILD, ADOLESCENT & FAMILY STUDIES

Currently in Malaysia, only 54% of Malaysian women participated in the workforce compared to 80% participation of Malaysian men (IMFBlog, April, 2018: Malaysia needs more women in the workforce). Given the rising need for women to join the country's workforce, the vital role of women at home has inevitably changed. Child care, for example, has to be outsourced and women as mothers are no longer the only main caregiver. Accordingly, other stakeholders such as children, adolescents and the family relations as a whole are affected. More studies need to be done to search for best practices and practical solutions to facilitate working women to provide the best care possible for their children, adolescents and families while they serve in the workforce. Realizing this, the Department of Psychology, IIUM has made an effort to devote one part of its research agenda to look into this issue. The main goal is to create awareness and offer practical solutions and best practices for an array of issues related to child, adolescent and family studies.
