Thank you: Research Brown Bag Series


In 2018, we have had the opportunity to listen, learn, and discuss a wide range of topics at the Research Brown Bag series. Many thanks to all the speakers for their willingness to share their research experiences. Here are the topics covered this year:

  3. SeGi College Educational Visit and Talk on Cognitive Neuroscience by Dr Hannah Hobson, Department of Psychology, Social Work & Counselling, University of Greenwich, UK on July 4th, 2018.

  4. Sr. Maisarah Mohd. Taib: Development of NEVIXA Work-Based Personality Inventory Using Indigenous Malay Personality Factor Structure (FRGS15-214-0455) on October 10th, 2018.

  5. Prof Amna Al-Faki: The Spiritual and Cognitive Heart on October 24th, 2018.

  6. Dr Junita Nawawi: Play therapy themes of children participating in play-based therapy after experiencing the Canterbury earthquakes on November 21st, 2018.

  7. Dr Suzana Amad @ Ahmad: Self-esteem and aggression in a high-risk population sample: The roles of agentic and communion trait on November 28th, 2018.

The Research Brown Bag series started in 2012 with two Tazkirah Ramadan by Dr Alizi Alias (Applicant Reactions from the Islamic Perspective on Wednesday, August, 1st 2012) and by Dr Hariyati Sharima (Field Experiences: Insights from a Psychologist Cum Researcher on Thursday, August 9th, 2012). The programme was then renamed as Lunch Hour Seminar Series in 2013-2014 with seven programmes as follows:

  1. Professor Dr Noraini Mohd. Noor: How the peer review process influences good writing and publication practice on July 4th, 2013.

  2. Dr Alizi Alias: Islamisation of psychology, Releventisation of IRK, and the Integration the two: The case of teaching Islam and Psychology course on September 23rd, 2013.

  3. Dr. Jamilah Hanum Abdul Khaiyom: Academic poster presentations: The Dos and Don'ts on October 7th, 2013.

  4. Dr Ruhaya Hussin: Library support for researchers and research students: Sharing an experience at the University of Waikato on October 7th, 2013.

  5. Almarhumah Dr Mimi Iznita Mohamed Iqbal: Academic Mentoring for Undergraduate Students: The Blurred Lines between Objective Professionalism and Deep Personal Involvement on November 4th, 2013

  6. Dr. Shukran Abd. Rahman: Conceptualisation and Development of Graduate Employability: The Way Forward for the Department of Psychology on November 28th 2013.

  7. Dr Nor Diana Mohd Mahudin: Systematic Review on September 2, 2014.

In the 2015-2016 session, the programme focussed on the Preview on Academics’ Research Area where all Departmental members gave a preview of their research work, interest, and publications.

This programme was then extended to Research Brown Bag series in October 2016 where the audience could benefit from both internal and guest/ external speakers. Topics discussed were:

  1. Dr Jamilah Hanum Abdul Khaiyom: Validation of Catastrophic Cognitive Measures and the Effectiveness of Unified Group Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Patients with Heterogeneous Anxiety Disorders in Klang Valley, Malaysia on October 19th, 2016.

  2. Dr. Abdul Rahman Ahmad Badayai (Tunku Abdul Rahman University College): The Role of Adolescent Executive Function in The Relationships Between Protective Factors and Problem Behaviours on November 9th, 2016.

  3. Dr Mariam Adawiah Dzulkifli and Dr. Jusmawati Fauzaman: Research Sharing Session on FRGS and Belt and Road initiatives on December 7th, 2016.

  4. Dr Nor Diana Mohd Mahudin: Intellectual Property, Translational Research, and Way Forward on October 11th, 2017.

  5. Dr. Mohammad Rahim Kamaluddin, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, UKM: Growing up Multi-cultured: Raising Resilience on October 26, 2017.

  6. Sr Ayunni Ayub and Dr Nazariah Sharié Janon: The Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) on November 8th, 2017.

  7. Prof Noraini M. Noor: The Self and Soul Book Project on November 22nd, 2017.

Since then, we also have had other spin-offs under this series, including the Professorial Discourse sessions by Prof Noraini M. Noor on March 17th, 2017 and November 10th, 2017.

We hope everyone has benefited from the work of RPI, PG, and DS committees (i.e., the organisers) and we look forward to your continuous patronage and support for these activities. May 2019 will be a more prosperous academic year for Psychology family.
