Suriati is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology, Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, IIUM. She has published numerous journal articles and conference proceedings, and also presented papers at the conferences in the areas of behavioural sciences and community health. She has also written a research book published by IIUM Press in 2017 (ISBN 978-967-491-001-3). She is an active researcher who has received a number of research grants from the Ministry of Education (FRGS) and from the university (RIGS).

Her areas of specialisation include needs assessment, community health, body image, and qualitative inquiry. Her research interests lie primarily in the area of eating behaviour, social development in children and adolescents, and the application of mindfulness in improving individuals’ quality of life. Specifically, her research is aiming to examine the interplay between the behavioural and social aspects, and their influence to the health and quality of life of the community.

She received research training in qualitative research methods by the Qualitative Research Association of Malaysia (QRAM). She continuously serves as a manuscript reviewer for an international journal such as the Journal of Health and Social Care in the Community and IIUM Centre for Islamization (CENTRIS). She is also appointed as an Academic Advisor, IIUM Academic Curriculum Vetter, and a member of Quality Management System for the Kulliyyah of Allied Health Sciences. She is also a member of Malaysian Study of Obesity (MASO) and QRAM.
